Re-Leaf: Offering Relief to India’s Sanitation Woes Introduction Re-Leaf is an organization that strives to transform India’s sanitation sector through a seemingly simple yet astonishingly powerful solution – portable toilets. By offering mobile bio-toilets and treatment systems on sale and for rent, we make sanitation facilities accessible and affordable to everyone. Our diverse and ever-increasing clientele, which includes government departments, event organizers and planners, construction sites, pilgrimage centers, and flood relief agencies, testify to the efficacy of our solutions. The Problem If you live in India, you sure have struggled to get access to sanitation facilities on more occasions than one. Remember the time when you went on a trip and walked half a kilometer to find a toilet? Or, that marathon you participated in, where the organizers had thought of all amenities except latrines? Let us tell you this – you are among the fortunate ones because, for millions in India, access to toilets is not an occasional hassle but an everyday struggle. Add to that the case of thousands working at construction sites and displaced due to natural calamities, one thing becomes painfully clear – you cannot take toilets for granted. Also, there is a clear shortage of proper treatment systems in the affordable price range, which leads to irresponsible dumping and groundwater contamination. The Solution When it comes to building an accessible sanitation infrastructure in a country like India, a sustainable and innovative model is the need of the hour. And that’s why we, at Re-Leaf, have come up with portable toilets and treatment systems. Our products, which are part of the Make in India initiative, boast ergonomic design, durability, ease of transportation, etc. Our wide network of dealers across India brings the infrastructure available for purchase. We also provide our units on a rental basis currently across South India, where the operation and maintenance are undertaken by our trained technicians. A key milestone in our journey has been the Sabarimala Bio-Toilet Project, where we have deployed more than 1000 portable toilet units and treatment systems and ensured round-the-clock operation and maintenance. Through the deployment of our units, we are saving 20 crore liters of freshwater every year at Sabarimala. Our other noteworthy interventions include the bio-toilet project in the flood-hit areas of Kuttanad, projects at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, FIFA U17 World Cup, etc. Installation of 700 rental units of portable toilets in 10 days as part of the Kerala State Legislative Assembly Elections 2021 has been our latest achievement. We’ve also forayed into the Karnataka market by catering to many prestigious companies, including HAL, Shoba Developers, and L&T Realty. The innovations and operations at Re-Leaf are spearheaded by Mr. Sambhunath Sasikumar (CEO and Managing Director), Ms. Meenu Sasikumar (Marketing, Brand Development), and Ravi Jaiswal (General Manager of Sales). Besides the core members, we have a highly trained workforce and sanitation technicians. Current Status Currently, we are in the process of expanding the business across India through Regional Distribution Centers (RDCs) and dealer networks. Operations in major south Indian cities are being coordinated from our newly set-up office in Bangalore. Moreover, the pandemic has made us rethink many of our business and marketing strategies. Building a strong digital presence, enhancing our brand visibility, establishing rental services in all major cities, and building a vast dealer network are among our top priorities for the coming months. New products and solutions, including the biodigester tanks to be launched in May 2021, are also underway. With these strategies and solutions, we aim to make Re-Leaf a market leader of sanitation and treatment systems in India.
