What’s success without pushing a few boundaries? The more you tend to broaden your horizon and stretch your potential, the greater your capacity evolves. Infinity Ladder acted on this axiom and accomplished many a milestone!
A progressive pre-school and an activity centre based in North Bengaluru, Infinity Ladder, has taken the road less travelled by challenging established norms of the traditional education system. Started by Aishwarya Manjunath, a 22 year old graduate from University College London (UCL), the school is working towards providing a healthy environment where children learn, adapt and evolve through experiential learning.
Seconding Pablo Picasso’s words – “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up,” Aishwarya believes that the existing system does not empower us to be creative, at times even drilling out the innate capacity that humans have for innovation.
Aishwarya, who founded Infinity Ladder in 2018, is a firm believer of experiential learning. After graduating, she returned from London to start a pre-school that challenges the current system. Talking about what got her started on this journey, Aishwarya said, “I have always been fascinated by the power of innovative education to have lasting impact on societies, transforming them from low to high productivity, from poverty to prosperity from being consumers to being producers of ideas.”
Currently, the school is incubated at Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru. Their in-house curriculum, unlike the conventional arrangement, considers children as rational human beings trying to understand the world around them through observation and experiences. The school plays the role of a mere facilitator in their journey of self-discovery rather than feeding knowledge. It lets them learn and explore the world at their own pace.
The programme also builds a strong foundation in areas such as socio-emotional development, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Creativity, Art, Language, and Communication. Additionally, the pre-school has ideated and developed the ‘We can, and the We Will’ method which helps the child empathize with his or her environment, brainstorm creative solutions, collaboratively take actions and inspire change.
Infinity Ladder believes that real academic learning is best developed and evaluated not by drilling facts and filling out bubble sheets, but through a process of inquiry and creating a space whereby students can apply that knowledge for solving problems they see around them.
Aishwarya is the sole-founder of the school. She leads a group of highly motivated and efficient staff who believe in the same ideals as she does.
Infinity Ladder’s bigger mission is to compel others to rethink early childhood education, reminding them that it is inseparable from social justice and ecological education. In the future, Infinity Ladder will assist new preschools in implementing the ‘We can and We Will’ change maker curriculum.
Recently, the school started a parent-toddler program for kids as 90 percent of the learning takes place before the age of 5. It is specially designed for kids below the age of 1.5. This program aims to boost sensorial learning, develop socio-emotional skills and prepare the toddlers for their ’pre-school phase.’
Additionally, they have curated Bangalore’s first makerspace for pre-schoolers. Children of different age groups can come together to invent, discover and learn. It provides an eco-system that enables children to get their hands dirty and feed their curious minds. Anyone can use the space for a nominal fee.
The school is trying to push both the projects ahead.
Offer a fair share of her entrepreneurial erudition, she says, “Ideas are a dime a dozen. Don’t wait for a “eureka idea.” A decent idea, a good team and a great attitude towards risk and challenges will take you a long way.”
